FLORENCE, Ala.-The Golden Eagles belted 13 hits en route to a 10-1 victory against Maryland-Eastern Shore to conclude the North Alabama Tournament.
Carlee Durham led the team with a career-high three hits and three RBI, followed by Hannah Borden's two hits and three RBI and Kayla Agner's two hits and two RBI.
Starting pitcher Loganne Stepp earned her third win of the season, throwing a complete game, allowing only two hits and one run with three strikeouts.
To leadoff the Golden Eagles Sunday morning, Borden hit her sixth home run of the season with a solo shot sent over the left field wall.Â
Southern Miss gained further momentum in the second as Agner and Durham got on base with two singles. Caroline Worrell batted in both runners with a double, shortly followed by another RBI double from Borden.
The Hawks knocked a solo home run in the second, but two quick plays from Kinsley Gordon to Lauren Lindsey at first base ended the frame.
Stepp fanned three batters and retired the side for the next two innings, allowing Southern Miss to expand its lead in the fifth.
Durham hit a two RBI single in the frame, in which Agner also scored from a throwing error. The Golden Eagles added two final runs in the sixth with a two RBI double from Agner for its second consecutive run-rule victory.
With her homer in the first, Borden now trails Megan Hill's all-time program record for most career home runs by four shots.
