Andrew Stein Wins Sun Belt Conference Special Team Player of the Week

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss redshirt junior place kicker Andrew Stein (Slidell, La.) earned the Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the Week award Monday in an announcement by the league office.
Stein converted a career-best four field goals, hitting from 25, 23, 52 and 41 yards, in a 40-14 season-opneing victory over Alcorn State.
The field goal attempts were his first since the 2019 season, since his last coming against Florida Atlantic on Nov. 30, 2019. Stein's four field goals were the first time a Golden Eagle kicker made that many in a game since Parker Shaunfield made four attempts versus Louisiana Tech on Oct. 21, 2017.
Stein's 52-yard field goal was the longest for the Golden Eagles since Briggs Bourgeois' 53-yarder vs. Liberty on Sept. 3, 2022. It also established a career-long field goal for Stein.
Stein now has four career games of at least three field goals made.
This is the second weekly award for Stein, who also captured one during the 2019 campaign by Conference USA. He also becomes the second Golden Eagle to ever win the weekly special teams honor by the Sun Belt. Natrone Brooks garnered the honor in the school's inaugural year a season ago.
TJ Finley of Texas State earned the offensive honors, while Clayton Isbell of Coastal Carolina took home the defensive accolade.
