Southern Miss Joins Jacksonville Classic Field

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss men's basketball team has officially been announced as one of eight participating teams in the Jacksonville Classic. The games will take place at Flagler College in St. Augustine, Fla. on Nov. 19 and 20.Â
The Golden Eagles are in the Bay Bracket along with Cornell, Cal State Fullerton and Utah Valley. The Coast Bracket will include Charlotte, UCF, South Dakota State and George Mason. Game opponents will be announced at a later date.Â
The Jacksonville Classic is the latest multi-team event (MTE) that Southern Miss has become accustomed to participating in. In 2022, the Golden Eagles won the Cancun Challenge with wins over Winthrop and Purdue Fort Wayne in Cancun, Mexico. Head coach Jay Ladner has also taken his Golden Eagle teams to Missoula, Montana and Nassau, Bahamas for similar events.Â
The Jacksonville Classic is the third MTE that Southern Miss has played in in the Jacksonville area in program history. It has played in the Jacksonville Charities (1970) and Gator Bowl Classic (1985, 1988).Â
