Golden Eagles Ink Big Man Tegra Izay

HATTIESBURG, Miss. --Â Southern Miss men's basketball head coach Jay Ladner announced the signing of Tegra Izay to the 2023-24 roster on Monday.Â
The 7-foot center is the first big man of that size to arrive in Hattiesburg since 7-foot-1 Gustavo Lino donned the Black and Gold in 2009. Izay started all 27 games for Harcum College (NJCAA) during the 2022-23 season and averaged 22.2 minutes per game. The Montreal, Quebec, Canada native averaged 8.4 points per game and hauled in 9.2 rebounds per game. Most notably, Izay shot 66.7 percent from the floor, which ranked him No. 11 in the NJCAA.Â
Prior to guiding the Bears to a 20-8 mark last season, Izay started his career at La Salle where he played two seasons for the Explorers. Izay made three appearances during his sophomore season before entering the transfer portal, which included a four-rebound performance against No. 7 Villanova. During his freshman season in 2020-21, Izay appeared in 11 games off the bench. He scored a career-high six points against Lincoln. He grabbed a career-high six rebounds against Saint Louis.Â
Izay prepped at Archbishop Carroll in Washington, D.C. and averaged 12 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks as a senior. He was a three-star recruit by Rivals.com.Â
