HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss football completed its spring practice Tuesday morning and third-year coach Will Hall said his team sits in a lot better spot than it has been to this point since his arrival.
The Golden Eagles went through a short final workout of its 15 allowable practices by the NCAA and ended the spring with a short scrimmage.
Since the start of spring practice back in late February, the Golden Eagles have practiced two to three times a week, with the exception of spring break when they were given the week off. Over that span, Hall said his team got the most out of their 15 opportunities to get better for next fall.
"We hit a lot and tackled all the amount of times we could tackle, and we were very physical," said Hall. "I was just pleased with the overall approach, and we are in a lot better spot ending spring than at any other point – and we should be. This is year three."
Hall went on to say that all but one practice had the juice and energy he was looking for from his team this spring.
Southern Miss finished 7-6 last season and won its first bowl game since 2016, when they defeated Rice 38-24 in the LendingTree Bowl in Mobile, Ala.
The Golden Eagles open the 2023 season Saturday, Sept. 2, against Alcorn State.
