HATTIESBURG, Miss. --Â The Southern Miss football team nears the end of its spring season with the annual Black and Gold scrimmage on Saturday at 12 p.m. Admission to Carlisle-Faulkner Field at M.M. Roberts Stadium is free for the scrimmage.Â
"It will be the normal Will Hall scrimmage, which is the Nick Saban model," said head coach Will Hall. "We'll go ones-on-ones, twos-on-twos, and then a good-on-good special teams. [Special teams] will probably be live, so our fans will be able to see our punt returners and see our punters.
"We'll run through that again. We'll get four live punt return reps and then we'll start doing special teams drills. We'll probably get between 80-100 total snaps and then we'll kick field goals and extra points live as it comes into the scrimmage."
Hall, who is entering his third year at the helm of the program, anticipates the scrimmage to be similar to the open scrimmage the Golden Eagles conducted last Saturday. Hall said the team will work through red zone and third-down situations during the scrimmage as well.
This will be the 13th of 15 scheduled practices for the Golden Eagles this spring. They open the 2023 season, Saturday, Sept. 2, at home against Alcorn State.Â
Tickets information for the 2023 home schedule is available by visiting SouthernMissTickets.com, by calling 1-800-844-TICK (8425) or by visiting the Pat Ferlise Ticket Office, weekdays, during normal business hours.
