NEW ORLEANS – Southern Miss senior forward DeAndre Pinckney averaged a double-double with 22.5 points per game and 12.0 rebounds per game last week. He is the Sun Belt Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
Pinckney was the only player in the conference last week to average a double-double. Among Sun Belt players last week, he ranked fourth in scoring and second in rebounding – the only player in the top-five of both categories. He shot 54 percent (7-of-13) from beyond the three-point arc during the two-game stretch.
In Thursday's contest at Louisiana, Pinckney scored 21 points on 8-for-14 shooting and grabbed 13 rebounds.
In Saturday's victory at ULM, which was previously undefeated in the league, he charted a career-high 24 points to complement 11 rebounds, six of which were on the offensive end. He drained four three-pointers in the game and connected on eight free-throws.
Pinckney's two 20-plus-point games in Sun Belt Conference play is tied for the league lead. Pinckney and Austin Crowley became the first Golden Eagles to win back-to-back conference player of the week honors since Michael Craig (Jan. 20, 2014) and Neil Watson (Jan. 27, 2014) picked up C-USA honors in 2014.
