Natrone Brooks Wins Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the Week

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss senior punt returner Natrone Brooks (Starkville, Miss.) captured the Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the Week today in a vote by the league's media.
In the team's 64-10 victory last Saturday over Northwestern State, Brooks tied a school record for most punt returns in a game with seven and his 145 return yards ranks second-best in school history. His longest return was 33 yards as he had two other returns of 27 and 31 yards. All seven of his returns were at least 10 yards in the contest and he currently ranks No. 9 in the country in punt returns at 18.4 yards per return.
The Golden Eagles set a school record for most punt returns in a game with 178.
This is the first SBC weekly winner in football for the Golden Eagles, who are in their first season in the league. During the preseason, Brooks was named first-team punt returner by Phil Steele Magazine.
Southern Miss returns to action this Saturday when they travel to New Orleans to face Tulane in their final non-conference tilt of the 2022 season. Game time is set for 6 p.m., and can be seen on ESPN+, as well as heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network by Learfield.
