JACKSON, Miss. -- Southern Miss junior Tyler Stevenson is one of three finalists for the Howell Trophy presented by the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians and the Pearl River Resort, which is given annually to the most outstanding collegiate basketball player in the state of Mississippi.Â
Stevenson, a Columbus, Miss. native, leads the Golden Eagles in scoring at 14.3 points per game and rebounding at 7.7 per game this season. Stevenson is 28th all-time on the Southern Miss scoring list with 1,171 points and is only the 17th player in program history to pair that feat with 500 career rebounds.Â
The two other finalists are Iverson Molinar of Mississippi State and Jarkel Joiner of Ole Miss. The award will be presented at a luncheon held at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame at 11:30 a.m. on March 7, 2022. Statewide media members who cover basketball in the state voted for the top three. The media will then vote for the Most Outstanding Player from the three remaining players.Â
Tickets for the banquet are available online at www.msfame.com or at the Hall of Fame offices, 1152 Lakeland Drive in Jackson. Tables of 8 are available for $350 and individual tickets are $40 or $35 if you are a 200 Club Member of the Museum. This marks the first year of sponsorship for the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians and the Pearl River Resort. All proceeds benefit the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame & Museum.
