Southern Miss at Marshall Men’s Basketball Elevated to ESPN2

NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference, in conjunction with ESPN, announced that the Thursday, January 12 men's basketball match-up featuring Southern Miss at Marshall will appear on ESPN2 with a 9 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. CT tipoff.
This will mark the first meeting between the longtime foes as Sun Belt Conference members. The two teams rank among the top-70 in the NCAA NET, as Southern Miss is No. 34 and Marshall is No. 65. Both former Conference USA teams, the Golden Eagles and Thundering Herd have met 26 previous times with Marshall leading the all-time series 15-11.
The contest marks the second of three wildcard appearances for the Sun Belt on the ESPN Family of Networks during the 2023 league season. On January 7, App State faces James Madison at 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT on ESPNU. The remaining wildcard appearance is set for February 24 with the match-up to be determined.
As part of the Sun Belt's comprehensive media rights partnership with ESPN, which runs through the 2030-31 academic year, the Worldwide Leader in Sports will also broadcast the championship games of the Sun Belt Men's & Women's Basketball Championships on Monday, March 6.
