Felipe Haase Named to Preseason All-Sun Belt Second Team

NEW ORLEANS, La. --Â Southern Miss' Felipe Haase was named Preseason All-Sun Belt Second Team in a release by the Sun Belt Conference office on Monday afternoon.Â
"Felipe is one of the smartest players I've had the honor to coach," said Southern Miss head coach Jay Ladner. "He's like a coach on the floor. We are thrilled that he's at Southern Miss and we expect and need him to have a great year for us to accomplish our goals."
Haase, a graduate forward from Osorno, Chile, joined the Golden Eagles this summer after transferring in from Mercer. The 6-foot-9 Haase also spent time at South Carolina prior to transferring to Mercer in 2019. During his 2021-22 campaign at Mercer, Haase was named All-SoCon Second Team and NABC All-District Second Team.Â
He appeared in 33 games for the Bears last season and averaged a team-high 14.8 points per game. The versatile big man also grabbed 5.6 rebounds to per game to lead Mercer. Haase led the SoCon in 3-point percentage (.406) and was the only SoCon player to have a 40-point, 10-rebound game all season. Haase dropped a career-high 41 points to go along with 10 rebounds in a non-conference game against Winthrop. Â
Southern Miss was picked to finish 13th out of 14 teams in the preseason poll. Louisiana was picked to finish first in the Sun Belt with 190 points and 10 first-place votes. A full breakdown of the preseason awards can be found below.Â
