Football Opens Practice Friday Morning

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss football team opened preparations for the 2021 season with its first football practice of fall camp Friday morning at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility.
The practice, which was conducted in helmets and shorts as mandated by the NCAA for the initial workout, took place under cloudy skies which kept the temperatures down for the 2 hour, 30 minute session.
For first-year Golden Eagle head coach Will Hall, the practice fulfilled a life-long dream.
"It felt as advertised," said Hall. "I've been dreaming about this (opportunity) my whole life to be a D1 head coach and to do it at a place with such a rich and storied tradition that means so much to me and my family."
Hall said that on the first day of practice there is always excitement which is a common theme around the country, but was pleased with the team's conditioning for the first day of practice.
"We had a great off-season program and we were in really good shape for the first practice," said Hall. "That is a credit to (Strength and Conditioning) Coach (Lance) Ancar and our kids for being here all summer."
Still, once things got underway today, the excitement leading up to the first practice goes away and the attention turns to getting ready for the season.
"Once you get out there and period one starts, all of that is behind you," said Hall. "It is about coaching these kids, coaching the positive and the negative, and trying to get a little bit better every day."
The Golden Eagles look to get better on Saturday morning as they return to practice preparation for their season opener, Saturday, Sept. 4, at South Alabama.
