HATTIESBURG, Miss. -Â Conference USA announced on Thursday that Southern Miss junior Tyler Stevenson was one of 11 members named a Preseason All-Conference Honoree.
"I'm very proud of Tyler and he's very deserving of this honor," said head coach Jay Ladner. "I truly thought he was deserving last year for postseason all-league awards. Tyler truly embodies what we want our program to emulate"
The Columbus, Miss. native averaged a team-high 14.1 points per game and 7.1 rebounds per game a season ago for the Golden Eagles. Stevenson finished third in field-goal percentage at a 51 percent clip and was seventh in scoring in C-USA play, averaging 15.9 points per game. He averaged 35.3 minutes per game and was the only power forward/center in the top-15.
Stevenson erupted for a career-high 29 points at Rice as he grabbed 10 boards to earn one of his four double-doubles last season. After adding 26 points the next road game at FIU, it marked the most combined points by a Golden Eagle in consecutive road games since Kourtlin Jackson in 2016. His 2020-21 campaign was also the highest-scoring season within league play by a Golden Eagle since Tyree Griffin's 16.0 points per game in 2017-18.Â
The 6-foot-8 forward has 798 points and 416 rebounds through his three years donning the Black and Gold.Â
The Golden Eagles open their season with an exhibition game against Delta State at Reed Green Coliseum on Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. Admission to the game is free.Â
