Rakeem Nunez-Roches Looks to Help Tampa Bay Advance in NFL Playoffs

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – While many Southern Miss fans likely will take the opportunity to root for another team wearing the Black and Gold this weekend, they will have also have a reason to root for its opponent as well.
Former Golden Eagle and current Tampa Bay Buccaneer defensive lineman, Rakeem Nunez-Roches, returns close to the Hub City when his team travels to New Orleans to face the Saints in the National Football League Divisional playoff round. The game is set for 5:40 p.m. CT, Sunday, in the Mercedes Benz Superdome.
Nunez-Roches, who currently has played in six NFL seasons, enjoys his third with the Buccaneers. He also played three seasons for the Kansas City Chiefs after that organization drafted him in the 6th round of the 2015 NFL Draft.
During this past regular season, he played in all 16 games and made 11 starts in which he posted 20 tackles (seven solo).
Last weekend during the Super Wild Card round, Nunez-Roches started at nose tackle for the Bucs as they posted a 31-23 road victory over Washington. He collected a pair of assisted tackles to go along with a quarterback hurry in that contest.
In his six-year NFL career, Nunez-Roches has appeared in 69 games with 27 starts and registered 79 tackles (27 solo) with 1.5 sacks as well as a fumble recovery.
Nunez-Roches lettered for the Golden Eagles from 2011-14 and posted 105 tackles (57 solo) with 26 tackles for loss, four sacks, a forced fumble and two blocks in his 31-game Southern Miss career.
Former Golden Eagle teammate, Cameron Tom, a member of the Saints practice squad, will not be active for the game this weekend.
