Golden Eagles Start New Week of Football Practice with Season Opener in Mind

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss football team returned to the practice fields for week two of its summer camp Monday morning.
The Golden Eagles, which began practicing last Wednesday, and utilized their fifth practice this morning to get ready for their Sept. 3 season opener at home against South Alabama. The team worked out in shoulder pads and shorts for almost three hours at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility.
With uncertainty swirling around the season, the Golden Eagles continue to work hard each day as they prepare for their 12-game regular season schedule.
"Everybody has the mindset that we have a game coming up and so that is the way we are acting and that is the only thing we can control," said redshirt junior tight end Ray Ladner, from Kiln, Miss. "We are going at things like everything is normal right now, but we will see how things play out."
Another Golden Eagle, redshirt sophomore Malik Shorts (Bassfield, Miss.), stressed to his teammates on their continued focus for the upcoming season.
"We have to focus on our season, because right now no one has told us that we are not having a season," said Shorts. "So we are going to come every day prepared to play and be ready for the season no matter what. We are going to be ready to play."
The Golden Eagles continue their practice with another workout Tuesday morning.
