Trahan Tabbed C-USA Pitcher of the Week for the Second Time in 2019

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss junior right-handed pitcher Abby Trahan has been named C-USA Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Sunday, April 7, the league announced on Monday.

The honor marks the second for Trahan this season. The Kaplan, La. native earned C-USA Pitcher of the Week honors for the first time in her career for the week ending Sunday, March 17.

Over the course of the week, Trahan drew three starts, tossed two complete-game shutouts, earned three wins, struck out 21 batters in 21 innings pitched, allowed just one run (earned) and notched a 0.33 ERA.

Trahan kicked off her week by tossing a complete-game shutout in Southern Miss' midweek road matchup against Sun Belt opponent South Alabama on Wednesday night. In the contest, Trahan scattered six hits, issued three walks, struck out five and earned the win.

The right-hander followed up her outstanding performance against South Alabama by tossing another gem on Saturday in the series opener against UTSA in Hattiesburg.

Trahan was dominate in the circle for the Golden Eagles once again, earning her second complete-game shutout of the week. In addition, the right-hander allowed just three hits, issued two walks, tied her season-high of nine strikeouts and collected her second win of the week.

The junior found herself in the circle again on Sunday afternoon against UTSA and she delivered another solid pitching performance. Trahan went the distance in the circle and allowed three hits, one run (earned), struck out seven and notched her third win of the week in as many appearances.

Before surrendering a solo home run to UTSA's Bailee Baldwin in the top of the sixth inning of Sunday's game, Trahan had pitched an astonishing 26 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings over the span of her last five outings.

Trahan, who has been one of the best arms in C-USA all season long, currently sports the best ERA of any pitcher in the conference (1.47). The junior also ranks in the top five in C-USA with 123.2 IP, 106 K, and 11 wins.

Southern Miss will return to action on Wednesday, April 10 at 6:00 p.m. (CT) when they host in-state SWAC opponent Mississippi Valley State at the Southern Miss Softball Complex.
