Trahan Named C-USA Softball Pitcher of the Week

The junior right-hander recorded a total of 20 strikeouts on the week in 20 innings pitched.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss junior right-handed pitcher Abby Trahan has been named C-USA Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Sunday, March 17, the league announced on Monday.

The Kaplan, La. native had an outstanding week in the circle, collecting two wins in three starts. In 20 innings pitched over the course of the week, the right-hander allowed 13 hits, three runs (two earned), issued four walks, struck out 20 batters and notched an earned run average of 0.70.

In her first start of the week against Alabama State on Wednesday, Trahan pitched six scoreless innings, scattered five hits, recorded five strikeouts and earned the win in the Golden Eagles' 5-0 victory over the Hornets.

After suffering a loss in a quality start against Florida Atlantic on Saturday in which she tossed a complete game and allowed six hits, three runs (two earned), issued two walks and struck out six, Trahan bounced back with her best performance of the season on Sunday.

In her outing against Florida Atlantic in the series finale on Sunday afternoon, the junior navigated her way to a complete-game shutout, helping lead Southern Miss to a 2-0 win. In seven innings pitched, Trahan allowed just two hits, issued two walks, tied her season-high of nine strikeouts and picked up her second win of the week.

For the season, Trahan has logged a total of 64 strikeouts in 79.1 innings pitched and is sporting a 1.68 earned run average.

Trahan is part of a Southern Miss pitching staff that currently boasts the best earned run average (1.95) of any C-USA pitching staff and that has also allowed the fewest amount of earned runs (48).
