Softball Heads to Louisiana for Two Midweek Games

HATTIESBURG, Miss - The Southern Miss softball team travels to the state of Louisiana for the next five games starting with two midweek games. The Golden Eagles hit the road to Baton Rouge to take on No. 10 LSU on Tuesday evening, first pitch set for 6 p.m. Following the Tuesday game, the team will move over to Thibodeaux for a Wednesday contest with Nicholls State.
The LSU game will stream online through SEC Network+ and the WatchESPN app with Lyn Rollins and Yvette Girouard on the call. Live stats will also be available at LSUStats.com.
Southern Miss enters the week 14-20 and coming off a conference series sweep of UTEP. Destini Brown continues to lead the offense with a .384 batting average, she also leads the team with 33 hits. Ciarra Cherry was named Conference USA Player of the Week after going 5-for-6 on the week with three runs, three RBI, two doubles and a homerun.
Kim Crowson is leading the Golden Eagles in the circle with a 3.18 ERA with 68.1 innings pitched and 30 strikeouts but Samantha Robles has pitched 97.1 innings with 63 strikeouts.
Series Records
LSU leads the series 23-5 claiming the most recent contest between the two, 4-0, on Feb. 9 in the Tiger Classic.
Nicholls leads the series 40-13. The two met earlier this year in a single game in Hattiesburg where the Colonels took the win 11-2 in six innings.
Scouting the Opposition
LSU
No. 10 LSU enters the week 26-5 overall. The Tigers went 3-1 over the weekend after hosting the LSU Round Robin, beating BYU (x2) and No. 13 Baylor but fell to NDSU. LSU is led offensively by Aliyah Andrews with a .382 batting average. In the circle, Carley Hoover leads the Tigers with a 0.82 ERA; she has only given up 10 earned runs along with 102 strikeouts. Allie Walljasper is sporting a 0.87 ERA with 81 strikeouts. The Tigers are ranked seventh in the nation in ERA.
Nicholls
Nicholls enters the week 20-9 overall. The Colonels are coming off a series loss to Southeastern Louisiana who the Golden Eagles played previously as well. Nicholls is led by Amanda Gianelloni who is batting a .360 with 32 hits compiled from eight doubles, two triples, and five homeruns. Megan Landry is leading the force defensively, posting a 1.81 ERA and a 12-5 record with 92.2 innings pitched alongside 79 strikeouts.
