Softball Concludes Homestand with a Doubleheader versus Troy

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss softball team welcomes the Troy Trojans to the Softball Complex for a doubleheader on Thursday, March 15. First pitch is set for 3 pm.
This past weekend the Golden Eagles fell to WKU in a doubleheader before a walk off homerun in the third game avoided the sweep. The squad then hosted No. 10 Auburn in doubleheader action on Monday, dropping both to move to 10-16 on the season and 1-2 in C-USA.
The Troy Trojans come into the week 14-8 on the year and 1-2 in the Sun Belt after falling to Georgia Southern a three-game series this past weekend.
Freshman Destini Brown continues to lead the Golden Eagles with a .433 batting average. Joining Brown is a fellow freshman Karley Nichols who is holding a .333 average. Juniors Samantha Papp and Chase Nelson are not far behind, both with averages above .300. Papp is also leading the team in homeruns after hitting the walk-off two-run homer in the series finale against WKU.
Kim Crowson and Samantha Robles are splitting time in the circle with help from Jillian Johnson and Jade Lewis. Crowson has a team low 2.96 ERA with 22 strikeouts in 52 innings of work while Robles has a 3.75 ERA and a team high 44 strikeouts after 74 2/3 innings pitched.
Following this doubleheader, the Golden Eagles return to conference play when they take to the skies for Huntington, West Virginia. Southern Miss will play Marshall in a three-game series beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 pm CT and conclude on Sunday at Noon CT. The games will be live streamed on CUSA.tv ($).

Series Record (last meeting)
Troy leads the series 14-5. The two teams met on the exact day last year when Troy hosted Southern Miss in a single game. It was scoreless through six and a half innings but a single followed by a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh allowed the Trojans to steal the win.
Scouting the Opponents
Katie Webb, Logan Calhoun, and Madeline Porter lead Tory and are atop the lineup with 69 hits combined. Webb is leading the team with a .377 batting average behind four homeruns and a slugging percentage of .623.
The pitching staff is led my Annie Willis who sports a 1.42 ERA through 44 1/3 innings and 41 strikeouts. Peyton Glover has a 2.36 ERA and 44 total strikeouts.
