Softball Takes on Alabama State in Single Game on Wednesday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss softball team continues their home stand as they welcome the Lady Hornets of Alabama State on Wednesday for a single game at the Softball Complex beginning at 6pm.
Live stats, video, as well as in-game tweets (@SouthernMissSB) will be available. Fans can also tune into 1400 AM in the local Hattiesburg area.
Southern Miss enters the week 3-7 after hosting the Black and Gold Invitational this past weekend. The Golden Eagles fell to nationally ranked teams Alabama, Baylor and McNeese but picked up a win against Mississippi Valley State.
Freshman Destini Brown went 8-for-10 this past week and is 10-for-19 overall with 10 hits, and four runs. Brown is currently on a six-game hitting streak and has three mulit-hit games under her belt going into the week. The Golden Eagles put up seven hits against #24 McNeese and 12 hits against Mississippi Valley State, the most this season.
Series Record
Southern Miss leads the series with Alabama State 6-0. The Golden Eagles traveled to Montgomery last year and took the game 7-1, marking the first road game and victory over the Lady Hornets.
Last Meeting
The Golden Eagles scored seven runs on nine hits behind Jillian Johnson. Johnson had two hits with three RBI and also pitched the final two innings to get a save while recent graduate, Danielle Block got the win in the circle. Jade Lewis, Caitlyn Aldous, Heather Hill, Samantha Reynolds and Chase Nelson all knocked hits in the game.
Scouting the Opponent
Alabama State comes to Hattiesburg 4-4 overall. The Lady Hornets picked up wins against Tennessee State (5-4), Appalachian State (10-4), Fort Wayne (9-4) and Akron (7-2).
Last season the Lady Hornets went 22-35 overall, 10-8 in the SWAC finishing is second in conference. They return three starters in Taylor Rosser who had a .348 batting average and Charlene Castro who had a .309 average with 4 home runs, 29 RBI and 15 runs.
