John Cox M-Club Hall of Fame Induction Set for Nov. 3

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Tickets are now on sale for the annual Hall of Fame banquet for the induction of John Cox into the Southern Miss M-Club Hall of Fame, Saturday, Nov. 3. This year's banquet will be a brunch before that day's football game versus Marshall in the recently renovated M-Club Room (located on the west side of the Duff Athletic Center).
The ceremony will feature highlights of John's career as well as a live interview with him and Cox will officially be presented for induction into the M-Club Hall of Fame. He will receive his plaque during halftime of the game.

The brunch will begin at 10 a.m. in the M-Club Room, with the program beginning at 10:45 a.m. Individual tickets are priced at $25 per person. Dress for this event is game day attire.

Cox, the Southern Miss Director of Sports Broadcasting, is in his 41st season at the University of Southern Mississippi. Among his many duties at Southern Miss, Cox handles the play-by-play broadcasts of Golden Eagle football, basketball and baseball. He also hosts the Southern Miss Sports Today television shows with Head Football Coach Jay Hopson and Head Basketball Coach Doc Sadler, pregame radio shows and Golden Eagle Hotline radio shows.

Prior to moving to the radio booth, Cox called the play-by-play on delayed telecasts of Southern Miss basketball from 1978 to 1981. In 1982, he handled the radio play-by-play duties for Golden Eagle football and switched back to the delayed television broadcasts of Southern Miss football for three years before assuming his current radio responsibilities. In 1982, Cox began broadcasting Southern Miss baseball games and over the years, he also has handled broadcasts of Southern Miss women's basketball and has worked on the Fox Sports Net South and Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS) telecasts of Southern Miss baseball and last season called his 2,000th baseball game.

In 2015, Cox called his 1,000th men's basketball contest. Six times he has been selected as Mississippi's Sportscaster of the Year, most recently in 2013. Last year the football radio booth was named in his honor and he was immortalized with his own bobblehead figure during the baseball season.

A native of Middletown, Ohio, Cox received his bachelor's degree in radio, television and film from Southern Miss in 1978.
