HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Former Southern Miss men's basketball standout and recent graduate Quinton Campbell has signed to play with Obras Sanitarias of Argentina's Liga Nacional de Básquet, as announced by the organization.
"It's a great opportunity," Campbell said. "I'm excited to be able to travel the world. I've never been out of the country. It'll be a good experience. I'm just looking forward to meeting everybody in the organization, seeing who I'll play with and getting back out there on the court."
Campbell, a two-year starter with the Golden Eagles upon transferring from East Central CC, took part in combines in Atlanta and Las Vegas before collecting the offer.
"I was expecting to get picked up by somebody, but I didn't know when or who it would be," he said. "I was aiming for a top-tier team, but I didn't know if it would happen with me being a rookie. It did, and I'm excited about it."
Campbell made more than a positive impression, averaging 13.9 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists over 29 games in the Eurobasket Summer League.
Campbell, a native of Wilmer, Ala., broke out as a senior with a team-high 14.1 ppg. His biggest moment came in the stretch run of this past season, averaging 21 points and 10.5 rebounds over a road weekend at Rice and North Texas to help him earn C-USA Player of the Week honors for the first time of his career. He scored the first 11 points of the win over the Mean Green that clinched a tournament bid for the Golden Eagles.
Obras will begin play in the fall.
