HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss coach Jay Hopson said 105 players reported for the start of fall camp Monday.
“Reporting day is exciting because football is here,” said Hopson. “Our guys are ready to get started. We have pretty much everyone here and we are healthy, knock on wood, and just looking forward to getting started.”
The team’s initial day featured players checking into dorms while also going through physicals and equipment fitting during the morning hours. After a mid-afternoon team meeting, the squad enjoyed its first dinner together before going through another meeting during the evening hours. The meetings continue for much of the day Tuesday, working around player summer classes, before taking to the practice fields for their first summer camp workout session Wednesday morning.
The Golden Eagles finished the 2016 with a 7-6 record, winning their final two games of the season including a 28-21 decision over Louisiana-Lafayette in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl. It was the squad’s second consecutive bowl appearance.
Season tickets, flex plans, and group tickets for the 2017 Golden Eagle home season are still available and can be purchased by going online at SouthernMissTickets.com, by calling 1-800-844-TICK (8425) or by visiting the Pat Ferlise Ticket Office, weekdays, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Discounts are available for Southern Miss faculty and staff, senior citizens, military personnel, and recent Southern Miss graduates.
