HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss softball team travels to El Paso, Texas for a three-game Conference USA series with UTEP. The series begins with a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon beginning at 4 p.m. CT (3 p.m. MT) and concludes on Sunday afternoon at noon CT (11 a.m. MT) at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex.
Live stats and live video (C-USA all access) will be available throughout the weekend. Also make sure to check twitter (@SouthernMissSB) for updates and links.
Southern Miss enters the weekend with a 14-14 overall record and a 1-5 mark in league play. UTEP has a 7-19 record, including a 2-4 C-USA record.
The Golden Eagles lead in the all-time series 17-15-1 over the Miners. The Black and Gold are 7-12 all-time in El Paso, including the road series win in 2015. This trip marks the fourth time in six seasons that Southern Miss has traveled to El Paso to play UTEP.
Last season, the two teams met four times in five days. The Black and Gold swept the Miners at the Softball Complex on May 7 and 8, 3-0, 3-0 and 6-4 before meeting again, that weekend in the C-USA Tournament (May 11), in Denton, Texas. Southern Miss captured that win as well, 10-4.
Scouting the Opposition:
The Miners have started 2-1 at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex this season after a C-USA series win over Middle Tennessee. Southern Miss traveled to El Paso in the 2015 season where UTEP had begun the home slate 6-0 before a March 28 game two loss to Southern Miss.
