Southern Miss Softball Continues Road Swing at Alabama State

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss softball team continues their road swing in Montgomery, Ala. when they take on Alabama State on Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 5:00 p.m.
Live stats and in-game tweets (@SouthernMissSB) will all be available during the game. Josh West on 1400 AM will be broadcasting to the local Hattiesburg area as well.
Southern Miss enters the week 12-10, 1-2 C-USA overall, while Alabama State is 5-17 on the season. The Lady Hornets enter the game on a five-game losing streak, recently dropping a game to Southeastern Missouri (8-1).
Southern Miss is 5-0 (1.000) against Alabama State all-time. The Golden Eagles and the Lady Hornets have never met in Montgomery, all games have been played in Hattiesburg prior to this matchup.
Last season, the Golden Eagles swept a doubleheader with the Lady Hornets. Southern Miss posted a 5-1 win in Game 1 before notching a 10-8 victory in Game 2.
Last season against Alabama State, Southern Miss hit .362, going 21-for-58 with five doubles and a triple on the night. The Golden Eagles scored 15 runs and posted 15 RBI. Six different players recorded multiple hits in the doubleheader. Samantha Reynolds led the team with a .750 batting average, finishing 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBI. Rachel Johnson and Lauren Holifield each accounted for three runs in the matchup.
In the circle, Samantha Robles earned the game one victory and the start in game two, working 10.0 innings. She allowed four run on eight hits. Robles struck out five batters. Danielle Block came in relief and allowed five runs on seven hits while walking only one batter and striking out four in 3 2/3 innings. Jillian Johnson went in the circle at the very end of the second game only pitching 1/3 of an inning and got the win in game two.
