Football Practice Report: Sept. 13

Report: It was busy as usual for the Golden Eagle football team as they put in their normal Tuesday afternoon workout in full pads at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility. The squad continued to prepare for this week's tough opponent in Troy, who dropped a tough 30-24 contest at nationally-ranked Clemson last weekend. A win this Saturday against the Trojans (1-1) would give Southern Miss its first 3-0 start to a season since the 2009 campaign when that squad opened the year with victories over Alcorn State, UCF and Virginia. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m., Saturday.

On Troy's defense:
"They're an excellent football team. We certainly know that and it's not a big surprise. We know we have to be prepared and we know we have a tough task."
On Troy compared to Kentucky:
"They just played Clemson 30-24. That says it all. You don't even have to say anything else. We know we have a really good football team coming in (here to play at The Rock)."
On today's practice:
"It was a good practice today. As a coach, you're never completely pleased but I thought we practiced well. We still have to clean up some mistakes."
Tickets: Seats for this Saturday's game against the Trojans can be purchased by going online at SouthernMissTickets.com, or by calling the Athletic Ticket Office at 1-800-844-TICK (8425) as well as visiting the Pat Ferlise Ticket Center on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The Pat Ferlise Ticket Office will also be open this Saturday from 10 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., and will then reopen at the Roberts Stadium Box Office at 3 p.m., until halftime of the game.
