HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- National Signing Day is an exciting day for all those involved. Young men choosing which school that they will continue their football playing career. The pomp. The circumstance. It is hard not to get caught up in the excitement. For defensive back D'Nerius Antoine, that excitement could not be contained.
The senior defensive back from New Iberia, La. posted a tweet on Twitter, "Can I re-sign my NLI Southern Miss? I am excited again! #SMTTT"
The tweet did not go unnoticed as Director of Athletics Bill McGillis responded to the student-athlete with a resounding yes.
A short time later in front of a small group, Antoine, donning a gold Southern Miss shirt that read #HopToTheTop, renewed his commitment to the University of Southern Mississippi by signing a National Letter of Intent.
"I saw all the young kids signing today," Antoine said. "It brought back memories of when I signed. I look forward to playing with you guys (who signed today).
"Playing under the lights at The Rock means everything," Antoine added. "The fans come out to support you, the alumni. Everybody from around the world can watch you play on television. It is a big dream come true."
Antoine led the 2015 in tackles, amassing 103 total tackles, including 75 solo stops. He boasted 7.5 tackles for loss, including 1.5 sacks. The rising senior had seven pass defenses, five pass breakups, four forced fumbles, two quarterback hurries, a pair of interceptions, and a fumble recovery.
Antoine ended his signing day event the only way a Golden Eagle could... "Southern Miss... To the top!"
