HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's basketball team returns home for the first of two consecutive games at Reed Green Coliseum, Thursday, when they entertain Conference USA-leading UAB in a 7 p.m., contest.
The Golden Eagles (7-14 overall, 4-6 C-USA) look to snap a two-game overall losing streak, but have played well as home as of late winning their last two and three of their last four contests at Green Coliseum.
Junior Raheem Watts (Greenville, S.C.) leads the Southern Miss offense over the last three games by posting 15.0 points and 4.7 rebounds per contest and scoring in double figures in every contest during that stretch.
Graduate transfer Kourtlin Jackson (Des Moines, Iowa), despite being held to a total of 15 points over the last two games, still paces the Golden Eagle offensive attack at 11.6 points per game, while also averaging 4.8 rebounds per tilt. Junior Khari Price (Slidell, La.) ranks second on the club in scoring at 10.2 points per contest to go along with 4.3 assists a game.
Southern Miss plays a UAB club that holds a 20-4 overall mark and hold the league's best record at 10-1.
The Blazers, under fourth-year coach Jarod Haase, sport three players with double-figure scoring averages including Chris Cokley who leads the team at 13.6 points per game. Robert Brown ranks second on the club at 13.0 points per contest, while Williams Lee adds 10.3 points and a team-best 6.5 rebounds averages.
The game marks the 45th meeting between the two schools with UAB holding a 27-17 advantage in the series, including three consecutive wins over the Golden Eagles. Southern Miss, though, leads 10-9 in games played in Hattiesburg in a series that dates back to the 1978-79 season.
Following the UAB affair, the Golden Eagles complete the two-game homestand, Saturday, with a 7 p.m., contest against Middle Tennessee.
