HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss football team will host Marshall on Saturday at 6 p.m. for its annual HOMECOMING game. As that date approaches, we take a look back on the 10 most memorable HOMECOMING games in Golden Eagle history.
Nov. 1, 2008 -- The Golden Eagles exploded for 70 points in just the first three quarters against UAB, kicking off a season-ending five-game winning streak in the biggest fashion. Freshman quarterback Austin Davis set a school record for five touchdowns...rushing...on carries of 10, 8, 23, 1 and 4 yards. That Saturday night saw Southern Miss score its most points in a game since HOMECOMING 1975 against Cal State Fullerton, a 70-0 contest that was played in Biloxi due to M.M. Roberts Stadium renovations.
Davis also broke Brett Favre's record of 16 passing touchdowns by a freshman quarterback, with one of those being a 60-yard connection with DeAndre Brown. The game still stands in the record books for Southern Miss' most points ever at M.M. Roberts Stadium.
The Golden Eagles also forced six turnovers, including four interceptions by current Carolina Panther Joe Webb. Tory Harrison (137 yards) and V.J. Floyd (114) led the rushing attack.
