HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss football had four former players in the NFL Playoffs -- Chris Clark (Houston Texans), Jamie Collins (New England Patriots), Tom Johnson (Minnesota Vikings), and Rakeem Nunez-Roches (Kansas City Chiefs). Johnson, Clark and Nunez-Roches took the field last weekend and competed in the Wild Card round of the NFL Playoffs. Here are their results and upcoming matchups.
Clark started for Houston as they hosted the Kansas City Chiefs last Saturday. This was the third time the Texans have hosted a playoff game in their brief franchise history. However, the Texans fell short to the Chiefs, but Clark and the offensive line helped Houston rush for over 100 yards.
Collins and the No. 2 seed New England Patriots sat out the first weekend of the playoffs after earning a first round bye. The defending Super Bowl Champion Patriots will host the Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional Round this Saturday at 3:35 p.m. on CBS.
Minnesota hosted the Seattle Seahawks this past Sunday. Johnson and the Minnesota defense held the back-to-back NFC Champions to roughly 225 yards of total offense and without a score through the first three quarters. At the end of the day, the Vikings came up short losing a heartbreaker, 10-9.
Nunez-Roches and Kansas City traveled to Houston this past Saturday to take on the Houston Texans. The Chiefs held the Texans to just over 200 yards of total offense while forcing five turnovers. Kansas City prevailed over Houston, 30-0, which is the fifth largest shutout in the Super Bowl era. The Chiefs will travel to Foxborough to take on the New England Patriots in the Divisional Round this Saturday at 3:35 p.m. on CBS.
