HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The 2015-16 men's basketball team tipped off the season with a free kids' clinic on Thursday, Sept. 23 at Reed Green Coliseum. The clinic was open to both boys and girls from kindergarten to sixth grade (K-6). The clinic included a photo and autograph session with players and coaches.
"A lot of kids came out and worked on their game," senior guard Kourtlin Jackson said. "I think most of them were classmates so they were familiar with each other. Overall, it was good and good for the program. It was good for our fan base and good for us.
"I feel like the team and coaching staff down here is more like a family."
The clinic was coordinated by the Director of Men's Basketball Operations, Chris Croft.
"We had about 75 boys and girls grades first through sixth," Croft said. "It was just a great opportunity for our guys to get to work with the kids on some fundamental drills like shooting, passing and dribbling. It was a good chance for the kids to meet the players. Obviously, we have a lot of new players with some returning players too. It was just a great time to have fun and play basketball before the season starts."
The Southern Miss basketball team opens up the 2015-16 season with an exhibition game against Millsaps on Thursday, Nov. 5 at Reed Green Coliseum.
