Second Consecutive Full Pad Practice Sunday for Golden Eagles

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss football team started its second week of spring practice here Sunday afternoon, going in full pads for the second consecutive session at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility.
The Golden Eagles worked under sunny skies and a temperature that reached 81 degrees during the two and a half practice.
For the first time in three spring seasons, coach Todd Monken and the Golden Eagles are utilizing a Sunday workout for much of the schedule and it gives the third-year skipper the chance to see how well his team adjusts from the Thursday workout as they start their work week one day earlier than they normally do.
"The one thing that's tough going Sunday is it does show how much your players took care of their bodies over the weekend," said Monken. "You go right away. They don't have Sunday to recover. So whatever they did on Friday or Saturday, they're going to feel it today."
One area of interest for the Golden Eagles this spring is at the offensive line. The Golden Eagles had just 11 players that saw time at that position last fall and, after losing just two players at that area during the offseason, the Golden Eagles added to the depth on the front line with a number of signees as part of the 2015 class.
Southern Miss has 16 offensive lineman on the spring roster including four newcomers in camp this spring, including Jacob Farmer, Drew Peterson, Ty Pollard and Tyler Stutzman, with two more expected to report this summer.
The Golden Eagles return to practice Tuesday afternoon from 4-6 p.m. Practice is open to the general public. Fans are asked to show ID to gain admittance to practice.
The Golden Eagles open their 2015 season at home on Sept. 5, against in-state foe Mississippi State.
