Men's Basketball Closes Road Trip at UAB

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss closes its two-game road trip this Saturday, February 7, when it travels to Birmingham, Ala., to face UAB. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT.
Southern Miss and UAB will meet for the second time this year and the 44th time in a series that dates back to 1979. UAB holds a 26-17 advantage overall and have won the last two. The Blazers also lead, 15-5 in games played in Birmingham.
Southern Miss enters tonight's game with a 6-15 record, including 1-9 in Conference USA. The Black and Gold have dropped 12 of its last 13 after falling at Middle Tennessee on Thursday, 61-51.
Guard Chip Armelin is 10th in Conference USA with 14.8 points. He is also third in the league in minutes played (34.0) and tied for tenth in three-pointers made (1.9).
Forward Matt Bingaya is second on the team with 13.8 points while also pulling down a team-high 5.5 rebounds. Forward Norville Carey is averaging 11.1 points and 5.3 rebounds. He is third in the league in field goal percentage, hitting 59.2% from the floor.
The Golden Eagles are scoring just 60.3 points a game but are allowing 68.6. Southern Miss is connecting on 43.9% from the floor and 34.6% from three while allowing 46.5% from the field and 38.0% from beyond the arc. The Black and Gold is also being outrebounded, 32.8-to-29.0.
Southern Miss head coach Doc Sadler is in his first season at the helm of the Southern Miss men's basketball program. He has compiled a 155-122 (.560) record in nine years as a head coach.
UAB enters tonight's game with a 12-11 record and is 8-2 in Conference USA. The Blazers have won five of their last six after defeating Louisiana Tech, 80-60, Thursday night.
Guard Robert Brown is averaging a team-high 13.3 points per game. Forward C.J. Washington is second on the team with 7.9 points. Forward Tosin Mehinti is third in the league in blocks, averaging 2.3 per game. Guard Nick Norton is third in C-USA in assists (3.9) and sixth in steals (1.5) and forward William Lee seventh in blocks (1.2) while leading the team in rebounding (4.9).
UAB is averaging 67.8 points per game while allowing 68.0. The Blazers are connecting on 42.9% from the floor and 33.1% from three, while allowing 42.8% from the field and 34.0% from beyond the arc. UAB is pulling down 35.3 rebounds per game, while allowing 35.1. The Blazers lead Conference USA in free throw percentage, connecting on 73.9%, and are second in blocks (5.4).
