Men's Basketball Begins Final Homestand against UTSA

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss begins its final homestand this Thursday, February 26, when it hosts UTSA. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
Southern Miss and UTSA will meet for the second time this year and just the third time in history. The series is tied at one, with Southern Miss holding a 1-0 lead in Hattiesburg. Earlier this year, Southern Miss fell at UTSA, 77-57. The Golden Eagles won the only other meeting in Hattiesburg last year, 85-56. Head coach Doc Sadler is 0-1 against the Roadrunners.
Southern Miss enters tonight's game with a 7-19 record, including 2-13 in Conference USA. The Black and Gold has lost 16 of its last 18 games after falling, 71-43, at Charlotte last Saturday.
Guard Chip Armelin is sixth in Conference USA with 15.8 points. He is also second in the league in minutes played (35.1) and sixth in three-pointers made (2.2), while grabbing 4.2 rebounds.
Forward Matt Bingaya is second on the team with 14.1 points while also pulling down a team-high 5.9 rebounds. Forward Norville Carey is averaging 10.7 points and 5.5 rebounds. He is eighth in the league in field goal percentage, hitting 55.4% from the floor.
The Golden Eagles are scoring just 59.5 points a game but are allowing 68.5. Southern Miss is connecting on 42.8% from the floor and 33.4% from three while allowing 46.0% from the field and 37.2% from beyond the arc. The Black and Gold is also being outrebounded, 33.7-to-29.5.
Southern Miss head coach Doc Sadler is in his first season at the helm of the Southern Miss men's basketball program. He has compiled a 156-126 (.553) record in nine years as a head coach.
UTSA enters tonight's game with a 13-12 record and is 7-7 in Conference USA. The Roadrunners have lost two straight after falling, 69-62, at UTEP last Saturday.
Forward Jeromie Hill is third in Conference USA with 16.7 points per game. He is also fourth in the league in rebounds (7.7) and tied for eighth in three-pointers made per game (2.0). Guard Keon Lewis is scoring 15.0 points per game. He is fourth C-USA in steals (1.7), sixth in free throw percentage (.815), eighth in minutes played (33.4) and ninth in assists (3.2).
Guard Ryan Bowie is averaging 12.7 points per game. He is fifth in the conference in minutes played (33.8). Center Kaj-Bjorn Sherman is scoring 11.7 points per game, while placing fifth in the conference in field goal percentage (.573) and sixth in rebounding (7.0).
UTSA is averaging 71.6 points per game while allowing 70.6. The Roadrunners are connecting on 42.6% from the floor and 33.2% from three, while allowing 45.0% from the field and 36.8% from beyond the arc. UTSA is pulling down 35.2 rebounds per game while allowing 33.5.
