Getting to Know... Michael O'Donnell

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- As the countdown for the season-opener approaches, a Southern Miss men's basketball player will be featured each day in preparation for the 2015-16 season. The Golden Eagles open the season on the road against former Conference USA rival Memphis on Saturday, Nov. 14.
With five days until tipoff for the regular season, redshirt senior forward Michael O'Donnell is featured.
In the exhibition against Millsaps on Thursday, Nov. 5, O'Donnell was one of three players to post double-digit points, notching 10 with a 5-for-6 performance from the floor in the 66-38 victory. The post player also pulled down a team-best six rebounds in the win.
O'Donnell began his collegiate career at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills, Ill. He helped Moraine Valley to a 27-9 record, the Region IV Tournament Championship and the NJCAA National Tournament. O'Donnell averaged 10.3 points 5.6 rebounds, 1.6 blocks, and shot 56.4-percent from the field.
He transferred to Southern Miss prior to the 2014-15 season. In his first season with the Golden Eagles, O'Donnell played in 25 games, making two starts. He saw his first career action against William Carey, playing three minutes. The Chicago native had two points and two rebounds versus South Alabama and recorded his first career blocked shot at Jackson State. O'Donnell made his first career three-pointer at Georgia State. He played 14 minutes at LSU, while scoring a season-high nine points on three three-pointers at UTEP. O'Donnell played a season-high 18 minutes against Middle Tennessee. O'Donnell scored six points and had a season-high four rebounds at North Texas. The forward had a season-high two assists versus Western Kentucky. O'Donnell made his first career start at Middle Tennessee.
Prior to college, O'Donnell played at prep basketball at Leo High School. Off the court, O'Donnell is majoring in psychology.
