HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- As the countdown for the season-opener approaches, a Southern Miss men's basketball player will be featured each day in preparation for the 2015-16 season. The Golden Eagles open the season on the road against former Conference USA rival Memphis on Saturday, Nov. 14.
With seven days until tipoff for the regular season, forward Eddie Davis III is featured.
In the exhibition game on Thursday night against Millsaps, Davis played 11 minutes of action, being limited due to foul trouble. In his time on the court, the forward tallied four points with a field goal and a perfect 2-for-2 performance at the charity stripe. In addition, Davis pulled down a pair of rebounds.
As a true freshman, Davis played in just four games before missing the rest of the season due to injury. He saw his first career action against William Carey, recording three rebounds in 14 minutes. Davis made his first career three-pointer versus South Alabama and recorded first career block against Troy.
In high school, Davis played at Centennial High School, helping CHS to a 25-4 record, including an 8-2 conference record. He helped lead the Bulldogs to the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association Sunset Region final. The Las Vegas native averaged 11.9 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.0 blocks as a senior, while shooting 47.5-percent from the field and 34.3-percent from three. Davis registered eight double-doubles on the year and was named to the Southern Nevada All-Stars. He was named First Team All-Conference.
