Getting to Know... Quinton Campbell

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- As the countdown for the season-opener approaches, a Southern Miss men's basketball player will be featured each day in preparation for the 2015-16 season. The Golden Eagles open the season on the road against former Conference USA rival Memphis on Saturday, Nov. 14.
With nine days until tipoff for the regular season, redshirt junior guard / forward Quinton Campbell is featured.
Campbell began his collegiate career at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala., however, he did not compete during the 2012-13 season, taking a redshirt. The Wilmer, Ala. native transferred to East Central Community College in Decatur, Miss. and played for the next two seasons.
At East Central CC, Campbell played in 23 games, making 23 starts on the season as a redshirt freshman. He followed that by playing and starting 24 games as a sophomore.
As a freshman, Campbell went 94-for-207 from the floor for 242 points with an average of 10.5 points per game, while pulling down 183 total rebounds (118 defensive, 65 offensive) for an 8.0 rebounds per game average. In addition, he dished out 24 assists with 14 steals and five blocks.
During his sophomore campaign, Campbell averaged 33.0 minutes per game, scoring 341 points (14.2 points per game) with 208 rebounds (8.7 rpg), 33 assists, 19 steals and 13 blocks. He was 110-for-238 from the floor for a 46.2 field goal percentage with 45 three pointers.
Prior to college, Campbell played forward at Mary G. Montgomery High School in Wilmer, Ala., playing four years of varsity for the Vikings. He was named All-District, All-Area and All-Region as a freshman, while earning All-Area and All-Region accolades all four seasons. Campbell broke the MGM record for most points scored in a game while averaging 21 points as a senior. In addition, he also competed in varsity football and track at Montgomery HS.
Off the court, Campbell is majoring in communications.
