Getting to Know... Khari Price

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- As the countdown for the season-opener approaches, a Southern Miss men's basketball player will be featured each day in preparation for the 2015-16 season. The Golden Eagles open the season on the road against former Conference USA rival Memphis on Saturday, Nov. 14.
With one day until tipoff for the regular season, redshirt junior guard Khari Price is featured.
Price joined the Golden Eagles during the 2014-15 season after a pair of seasons at Dayton. He sat out the season due to the NCAA transfer rules.
As a freshman at Dayton, Price averaged 2.8 points and 1.4 assists in 18.3 minutes per game. He earned Dayton's Best Defender Award. Price played in 24 games, missing seven games due to injuries. The Slidell, La. native ranked third on the team with a .410 three-point percentage (16-of-39) and was also third in free throw percentage (.762, 16-of-21). Against Colorado, Price scored six points and had two steals. He set season-highs with five assists and four steals versus Florida Atlantic, while tallying a season-high 10 points on 3-of-4 shooting against Butler.
As a sophomore, Price played and started all 37 games on Dayton's run to the Elite Eight. He averaged 22.4 minutes, 6.2 points and 1.8 assists per game. Price connected on 88.3-percent (53-of-60) of his free throws while hitting 39.0-percent (46-of-118) from behind the arc, good for 11th in the Atlantic 10. The point guard played 28 minutes, scoring a season-high 17 points in the season-opener against IPFW, while notching 14 points against Saint Francis (Pa.). Price dropped in 13 points versus Saint Francis (N.Y.) and scored 15 points against Murray State. Twice on the year, Price tied a season-high with five assists.
In high school, Price played basketball at Salmen High School. He averaged 18.2 points, 5.6 assists and 2.3 steals as a senior, leading Salmen HS to a 27-6 record. He averaged 14.9 points a game as a junior. He helped the Spartans to the State Quarterfinals after winning the regional round of the state tournament. Price was named Second Team Class 4A All-Louisiana. As a senior, he shot 42-percent from the field and 74-percent from the line. In 2011-12, Price was rated among the top 10 players in the state. He had a combined 113-19 record during four-year varsity career. In 2010-11, the Spartans finished 32-4 and lost in overtime in the State Semifinals. Price was a three-year starter and the sixth man on the 2009 Louisiana 4A State Champions.
Off the court, Price is majoring in interdisciplinary studies.
