Getting to Know... Kourtlin Jackson

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- As the countdown for the season-opener approaches, a Southern Miss men's basketball player will be featured each day in preparation for the 2015-16 season. The Golden Eagles open the season on the road against former Conference USA rival Memphis on Saturday, Nov. 14.
With two days until tipoff for the regular season, redshirt senior guard Kourtlin Jackson is featured.
Jackson comes to Southern Miss after a pair of seasons at Iowa State.
At Iowa State, Jackson played in eight games, scoring five points. He scored three points against Mississippi Valley State and two against TCU. Jackson won the dunk contest at Hilton Madness, Iowa State's preseason kickoff event. Jackson transferred Iowa State for the 2013-14 season where he was coached by head coach Doc Sadler.
Jackson started his collegiate career at Minnesota State in Mankato, Minn. He did not compete during the season, taking a redshirt. Jackson then transferred to John Wood Community College in Quincy, Ill. where he averaged 8.9 points and 4.6 rebounds per game as the Blazers went 22-10 and advanced to the Region 24 Championship Game.
In high school, Jackson played for Herbert Hoover High School in Des Moines, Iowa. He helped Hoover High School finish second at the 2011 Iowa Class 4A State Tournament, while he averaged 8.8 points and 4.0 rebounds as a senior.
Off the court, Jackson is majoring in sport management.
