HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- As the countdown for the season-opener approaches, a Southern Miss men's basketball player will be featured each day in preparation for the 2015-16 season. The Golden Eagles open the season on the road against former Conference USA rival Memphis on Saturday, Nov. 14.
With 15 days until tipoff for the regular season, freshman Cortez Edwards begins the series.
Edwards played guard at Osceola High School in Kissimmee, Fla. He helped the Kowboys to 61 victories in four seasons, leading Osceola HS to back-to-back Division Championships as a junior and senior. Edwards helped the Kowboys to a Regional Championship and a trip to the State Finals as a senior.
For his efforts on the hardwood, he was named First Team All-District as a junior, while earning First Team All-State, All-District, All-Area, All-Region and All-Metro accolades as a senior. He was voted to the Fabe All-Star Team and the Great Florida Shootout All-Tournament team.
Off the court, Edwards has not declared a major yet.
