Football Practice Report: Oct. 27

Format: Shoulder Pads and Shorts
Upcoming: Practice (4:15 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 28)
Report: Due to the rainy weather the last couple of days, the Golden Eagles moved their Tuesday practice to the game field and went through drills lasting 2 ½ hours. After working on individual position drills, the Golden Eagles transitioned into special teams before going into team periods over the final half of the workout. Southern Miss continued to install its game plan for the Miners, looking to snap a two-game losing streak this weekend to its West Division rival.

On how to get the staff to refocus the team after winning two-straight games...
"All you have to do is turn on the film and watch UTEP beat a solid FAU team at home and feel better about themselves. I want to feel our captains and our leaders. Everyone wants to walk to the middle of the field and say, `Hey, look I'm a captain,' but there are things that come with that. I want to coach; I don't want to pull. You need your guys to say that's not good enough. Today we had some good things but we had some negative in there. You just don't want to live your life with regret when you have a good football team."
On Cornell Armstrong's progress in the secondary...
"Cornell is a good cover guy right now, but right now, he needs to get a little bit more physical. Cornell is a good football player, but is capable of being really good. I think the world of him but he has to get a little bit more physical."

On his first career touchdown reception at Charlotte...
"My route was a deep out in the end zone. I had a one-on-one matchup and I was just in the right place at the right time to catch a jump ball."
