Men's Basketball Heads to UTEP

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss looks to snap a five-game losing streak this Saturday, January 10, when it travels to El Paso, Texas to face UTEP. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT.
Southern Miss and UTEP will meet for the 22nd time with UTEP holding a 12-9 record. The Golden Eagles have won the last four meetings. In El Paso, the Miners are 8-2.
Southern Miss enters tonight's game with a 5-8 record, including 0-2 in Conference USA. The Black and Gold fell at UTSA, 77-57.
Forward Matt Bingaya leads the Golden Eagles with 15.3 points, which is sixth in Conference USA. He is also averaging a team-high 5.5 rebounds per game. Guard Chip Armelin is second on the team with 13.3 points.
Forward Norville Carey is averaging 9.0 points and 4.4 rebounds. He is third in the league in field goal percentage, hitting 62.1% from the floor. Guard Rasham Suarez is scoring 6.8 points and is fifth in C-USA in assists (3.8).
The Golden Eagles are scoring 62.4 points a game but are allowing 69.9. Southern Miss is connecting on 45.1% from the floor and 34.8% from three while allowing 46.8% from the field and 35.6% from beyond the arc.
The Black and Gold is also being outrebounded, 32.8-to-28.8.
Sadler is in his first season at the helm of the Southern Miss men's basketball program. He has compiled a 154-115 (.572) record in nine years as a head coach.
UTEP enters tonight's game with a 10-5 record and is 2-1 in Conference USA. The Miners fell, 58-45, to Louisiana Tech Thursday night, snapping a four-game winning streak
Forward Vince Hunter is fourth in Conference USA in scoring, averaging 16.7 points per game, while pulling down 10.3 rebounds, which leads the league. Forward Cedrick Lang is second on the team in scoring (10.1) and rebounding (6.0). He is also second in C-USA in field goal percentage (.624).
Guard Earvin Morris is averaging 10.1 points. He also leads the league in three-point field goal percentage (.500).
UTEP is averaging 69.3 points per game while allowing 63.6. The Miners are connecting on a league-best 46.8% from the floor and 36.4% from three, while allowing 41.4% from the field and 36.4% from beyond the arc. UTEP is second in C-USA in assists (14.7). The Miners are outrebounding their opponents, 35.7-to-32.9.
