Men's Basketball Begins First Conference Road Trip

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss goes on the road for the first time Conference USA play this Thursday, Jan. 8, when it travels to San Antonio, Texas to face UTSA. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT and will be televised by ASN.
Southern Miss and UTSA will meet for just the second time ever and the first in San Antonio. The Golden Eagles won the first meeting last year, an 85-56 victory in Hattiesburg.
Southern Miss enters the game with a 5-7 record, including 0-1 in Conference USA. The Black and Gold is looking to snap a four-game losing streak after falling in its C-USA opener to Louisiana Tech, 83-70.
Forward Matt Bingaya leads the Golden Eagles with 15.6 points, which is sixth in Conference USA. He is also averaging a team-high 5.7 rebounds per game. Guard Chip Armelin is second on the team with 12.8 points.
Forward Norville Carey is averaging 8.4 points and 4.5 rebounds. He is fifth in the league in field goal percentage, hitting 58.6% from the floor. Guard Rasham Suarez is scoring 6.9 points and is fifth in C-USA in assists (3.9).
The Golden Eagles are scoring 62.8 points a game but are allowing 69.3. Southern Miss is connecting on 44.9% from the floor and 35.0% from three while allowing 46.1% from the field and 34.1% from beyond the arc. The Black and Gold is also being outrebounded, 33.2-to-29.2.
Sadler is in his first season at the helm of the Southern Miss men's basketball program. He has compiled a 154-114 (.575) record in nine years as a head coach.
UTSA enters the game with a 6-6 record and are 1-1 in Conference USA. The Roadrunners are coming off a 71-61 win at North Texas.
Forward Jeromie Hill is seventh in Conference USA in scoring, averaging 15.5 points per game, while pulling down 7.6 rebounds, good for third in the league. Guard Keon Lewis is 10th in the conference in points, averaging 14.8. He leads the Roadrunners in assists (3.4), while placing seventh in the league in free throw percentage (.806) and eighth in steals (1.4).
Guard Ryan Bowie is averaging 14.4 points. He is second in C-USA in minutes played (34.3) and is tied for fifth in C-USA in steals (1.5) Center Kaj-Bjorn Sherman is scoring 9.5 points per game. He is fourth in Conference USA in free throw percentage (.828) and ninth in rebounding (6.8).
UTSA is averaging 72.8 points per game while allowing 73.8. The Roadrunners are connecting on 41.4% from the floor and 32.1% from three, while allowing 46.4% from the field and 40.1% from beyond the arc.
UTSA is second in C-USA in steals (8.3). The Roadrunners are outrebounding their opponents, 35.2-to-33.8.
