Men's Hoops to Face North Texas

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss closes out its Texas trip this Saturday, January 24, when it travels to Denton to face North Texas. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
Southern Miss and North Texas will meet for the 23rd time in a series that dates back to 1950. Southern Miss holds a 17-5 advantage and have won the last eight meetings dating back to 1981. The Golden Eagles also lead, 7-4, in Denton and have won the last four on the road.
Southern Miss enters tonight's game with a 5-12 record, including 0-6 in Conference USA. The Black and Gold is looking to snap a nine-game losing streak after falling at Rice, 58-56.
Forward Matt Bingaya leads the Golden Eagles with 14.2 points and 5.4 rebounds. He is also eighth in Conference USA in steals (1.3). Guard Chip Armelin is second on the team with 13.1 points. He is also ninth in the league in minutes played (32.6).
Forward Norville Carey is averaging 9.9 points and 4.5 rebounds. He is third in the league in field goal percentage, hitting 59.4% from the floor. Guard Rasham Suarez is scoring 7.4 points and is fifth in C-USA in assists (3.7).
The Golden Eagles are scoring 60.2 points a game but are allowing 68.6. Southern Miss is connecting on 44.6% from the floor and 35.1% from three while allowing 47.0% from the field and 38.0% from beyond the arc. The Black and Gold is also being outrebounded, 32.4-to-28.1.
Southern Miss head coach Doc Sadler is in his first season at the helm of the Southern Miss men's basketball program. He has compiled a 154-119 (.564) record in nine years as a head coach.
North Texas enters tonight's game with an 8-10 record and is 2-4 in Conference USA. The Mean Green snapped their two-game losing streak on Thursday when they defeated Louisiana Tech, 73-66.
Guard Jordan Williams is eighth in Conference USA in scoring, averaging 15.4 points. He also leads the league in minutes played (34.8) and is fourth in steals (1.7) while adding 5.3 rebounds. Forward Jeremy Combs is second on the team with 9.6 points. He is also seventh in the conference in field goal percentage (.578) and tied for ninth in rebounding (6.4).
North Texas is averaging 64.1 points per game while allowing 67.3. The Mean Green are connecting on 43.1% from the floor and 29.2% from three, while allowing just 39.7% from the field, which is second in C-USA, and 32.9% from beyond the arc. North Texas is pulling down 36.1 rebounds per game, while allowing 36.3. The Mean Green are third in Conference USA in steals (7.4).
