Men's Basketball Hosts UAB in Annual Whiteout Game

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss closes its hometand this Saturday, January 17, when it hosts UAB in its annual whiteout game. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
Southern Miss and UAB will meet for the 43rd time in a series that dates back to 1979. UAB holds a 25-17 advantage. The Golden Eagles lead, 10-8, in Hattiesburg.
Southern Miss enters the game with a 5-10 record, including 0-4 in Conference USA. The Black and Gold is looking to snap a seven-game losing streak after falling to Middle Tennessee, 62-61.
Forward Matt Bingaya leads the Golden Eagles with 14.3 points, which is 10th in Conference USA. He is also averaging a team-high 5.5 rebounds per game. Guard Chip Armelin is second on the team with 13.1 points.
Forward Norville Carey is averaging 9.3 points and 4.4 rebounds. He is fourth in the league in field goal percentage, hitting 60.8% from the floor. Guard Rasham Suarez is scoring 6.9 points and is sixth in C-USA in assists (3.8).
The Golden Eagles are scoring 60.8 points a game but are allowing 69.7. Southern Miss is connecting on 44.6% from the floor and 34.5% from three while allowing 47.5% from the field and 37.2% from beyond the arc. The Black and Gold is also being outrebounded, 32.3-to-28.4.
Sadler is in his first season at the helm of the Southern Miss men's basketball program. He has compiled a 154-117 (.568) record in nine years as a head coach.
UAB enters tonight's game with a 7-10 record and is 3-1 in Conference USA. The Blazers had their three-game winning streak snapped on Thursday, falling, 74-71, at Louisiana Tech.
Guard Robert Brown is averaging a team-high 13.4 points per game. Forward C.J. Washington is second on the team with 8.7 points. Forward Tosin Mehinti is second in the league in blocks, averaging 2.1 per game. Guard Nick Norton is fourth in C-USA in assists (3.9) and eighth in steals (1.4) and forward William Lee seventh in blocks (1.1) while leading the team in rebounding (4.8).
UAB is averaging 65.9 points per game while allowing 69.1. The Blazers are connecting on 41.5% from the floor and 30.4% from three, while allowing 42.6% from the field and 33.5% from beyond the arc. UAB is pulling down 35.1 rebounds per game, while allowing 37.2. The Blazers are second in Conference USA in free throw percentage, connecting on 70.8%.
