HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Under slightly cooler temperatures, the Southern Miss Golden Eagles finished up their fourth practice of fall camp on Monday in just over two hours at the Joe P. Park practice facility.
The Golden Eagles continued to work on offensive and defensive scheme installations as well as going through individual position group drills.
"[Today's practice] was pretty good," said first-year Golden Eagle head coach Ellis Johnson. "I told them at the end of practice that there were a lot less missed assignments. There was a little bit better execution which allows us to have a little more competition."
With just four practices in, the Golden Eagles are looking to grasp exactly what the coaching staff expects of them, and Johnson said that remained evident on Monday.
"We are still in the install stage and adding stuff on them and changing situations," noted Johnson. "There is still some learning curve going on out there, but today was really the first practice where I felt like there was good enough execution on both sides of the ball that we'll get some good competition from the players."
Southern Miss will put on the pads for the first time in camp tomorrow when they go through another early morning workout at the facility.
