HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Just as Hurricane Isaac was upgraded to a Category 1 storm, the Southern Miss Golden Eagles wrapped up their two-hour practice session on Carlisle-Faulkner Field at Roberts Stadium.
The session went its full length and the team practiced in just helmets as weather conditions forced the early movement of equipment to Lincoln, Neb., ahead of schedule.
It did not faze first-year head coach Ellis Johnson who was pleased with the energy levels his players showed on Tuesday.
"We didn't have any contact today," said Johnson. "Practice today was sort of a mixture. It was like Tuesday in length but like Thursday in physical nature but we got a lot done."
For Johnson, Tuesday's workout served to keep a sense of normalcy for the team.
"We've got all our schemes in," Johnson added. "You never know how much [these distractions] really disrupt you. But, you can have something on any week. You could lose players or some other type of distraction. It doesn't matter what it is - we have to find a way to handle it."
Southern Miss will travel to Nebraska on Friday and with their NCAA-mandated day off yet to be taken this week, the Golden Eagles will have another practice session this week.
