HATTIESBURG, Miss. - After going through its second scrimmage the previous day, the Southern Miss football team returned to the practice fields Sunday morning to go through corrections as well as work on special teams and some 100-yard sprints."Today was a typical Sunday (practice) for us," fourth-year coach Larry Fedora said. "We had over 150 plays in that scrimmage yesterday so we have a lot of guys that are sore just like they will be after a game. We came out washed all the lactic acid out (with some sprints), got all the corrections made, did a little bit in the special teams and then got them off the field."
The Golden Eagles practiced in helmets and shorts and went an hour and a half at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility.
After having a day to reflect on the team's second full-scale scrimmage of the fall, Fedora was pleased what he saw on film.
"Our effort was really good throughout the entire scrimmage," Fedora said. "Our tempo on offensive was good, especially early. We kind of hit a lull in the middle, but started to pick it up (toward the end). I was pleased overall with the entire effort of the team."
The Golden Eagles return to practice Monday morning and then will have their final two-a-day slated for Tuesday. Fall classes at the University start on Wednesday.
Southern Miss will open their 2011 season, Sat., Sept. 3, against Louisiana Tech. Season tickets, as well as single-game seats, are available by going online at SouthernMiss.com, by calling 1-800-844-TICK (8425) or by visiting the Pat Ferlise Center Monday through Friday from 8 a.m., until 5 p.m.
