IRVING, Texas - Three Southern Miss senior football players were named to the 2011 Preseason All-Conference team in a release from the conference office on Wednesday.
Korey Williams and Cordarro Law both earned first team defensive honors at linebacker and defensive line, respectively, to give Southern Miss two spots on the preseason squad. The number matches only UCF and SMU for the most on the defensive side of the ball.
Danny Hrapmann, a 2010 first team Walter Camp All-American, was named the conference's preseason kicker following his sensational 2010 campaign.
The 2010 Lou Groza finalist converted 26-of-31 field goals and all 55 of his PAT attempts. He went 8-for-10 on attempts from 20-39 yards, while hitting all 10 attempts from 30-39 and was 6-of-8 from 40-49 yards.
Williams, who has also been named to the Bednarik Award, Bronko Nagurski and Rotary Lombardi Award Watch Lists in recent weeks for the nation's top defensive player, led the team in tackles for the second consecutive season in 2010 with 93 total stops. His tackle numbers included a team-best 15.5 tackles for loss and three sacks. The senior added an interception and a forced fumble to help lead the Golden Eagles to their ninth-straight bowl appearance and school-record tying 17th straight winning season.
Law led all Golden Eagle defensive linemen with 48 tackles (28 solo) in 2010, including team-bests of 11.5 tackles for loss for 63 yards and six sacks for 52 yards. He also forced four fumbles and recovered two and has 10 forced fumbles in his career - a school record.
Houston senior quarterback Case Keenum was chosen as the league's 2011 Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. Keenum headlines the list of preseason football award winners, as chosen by the league's 12 head coaches. Marshall senior DE Vinny Curry was named the preseason Defensive Player of the Year, while Tulsa senior return specialist Damaris Johnson earned Special Teams Player of the Year honors.
The Golden Eagles kick off the 2011 season on Sept. 3, when they host Louisiana Tech at 9 p.m. on Carlisle-Faulkner Field at M.M. Roberts Stadium.
Single-game home football tickets for the 2011 Southern Miss season go on sale, Monday, Aug. 1, and the Golden Athletic Ticket Office is offering a special promotion that day.
