PEARL, Miss. - Southern Miss took to the road for the final time this spring, holding a two hour scrimmage at Pearl High School.
Head coach Larry Fedora was happy with how both the offense and defense played.
"We had some guys hitting today," said Fedora. "There were some big hits. We had a lot of good things happen. There were two (fumbles) offensively, but the running backs ran hard. I thought the quarterbacks did some nice things. The offensive line looked like they did some good things. "Defensively, I thought they were moving around really well, and they made some nice plays today."
The coaches will now go back and look at the film before getting ready for the final week of spring practice.
Added Fedora, "The energy level was really high. There was a lot of talking. You get to this point in the spring and they're tired of hitting each other. They were getting after it pretty good, and I like that."
Senior Austin Davis connected on 14-of-24 passing for 174 yards and a touchdown. Redshirt sophomore Chris Campbell was 8-of-11 passing for 117 yards and a touchdown.
Redshirt freshman Jamal Woodyard rushed 20 times for 157 yards and three touchdowns. Redshirt junior Desmond Johnson ran for 95 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries, and redshirt freshman Arsenio Favor ran 14 times for 63 yards and two touchdowns. Junior Rashun Prince caught three passes for 64 yards. Senior Kelvin Bolden caught four passes for 57 yards. Sophomores Dominique Sullivan and Francisco Llanos each caught touchdown passes.
